Storm Spotters Newsletter Vol.2

Posted by Josh Swangstu on March 23, 2014 at 10:30 PM

Good evening storm spotters and chasers!!

With the severe weather season upon us, a lot of spotters and chasers are gearing up for the season in the hopes that it'll hopefully be better than last year! The previous season wasn't what one would call exciting by any means but there were a few good storms out there that were able to catch our attention so all in all it wasn't a complete loss.

With the winter season coming to an end, I'm sure a lot of you are getting your gear up and ready to go to hit the road in search of mother natures fury. Lord knows I'm one of them but in my case, I'm trying to get my rig up and running after it quit running on me this winter! Got the parts just need to get him into the shop eventually! Hopefully all of you have had a better luck this winter with your vehicles than I have!

But let's not draw attention to myself here. That isn't the point of this newsletter. We got some new things going starting up around here and we would like to make everyone aware of what's going on.

For starters, MSSL is now starting it's own official team! Yes, we're no longer going to be just a 'group' on Facebook. We are starting up our own team for the Midwest area! We have already had shirts and hats designed for people to order. But not just anyone may order those items.

Anyone who is interested in being a part of our team must complete these steps:1) Complete up to two (2) in person storm spotter classes

2) Complete the Skywarn Spotter courses on https://www.meted.ucar.edu

3) Complete and send in an application that must be approved by either me or my second in command. Ask for a copy of the application from me (Josh Swangstu) and I will be than happy to send you the file to print, fill out, and mail back to us with my address. Once you are approved you can talk to my second in command Francis Uy and he will help you with getting shirts and hats ordered.4) You also have the option of joining/registering on our website at http://midwestseverestormtrackers.webs.com. We realize that the name is different from our teams current title but just haven't had the gumption to change it. It is a free site that we're running so none of your money will ever be used by us.

Our group does not nor will we ever charge you any membership fees/dues! We are not in this for profit. We are here to serve our friends, family, and communities. Everything we run in our spotter/chaser vehicles we have bought ourselves which gives us more pride than anything else. Knowing that we are able to support our love of severe weather while also helping our communities is more rewarding than anything else we can think of! The only money you will ever have to spend is to pay the company that will be making our shirts/hats! If you would like to see what we came up with for a design, feel free to ask me and I will send you the designs via private message. The shirts and hats will be yours to keep no questions asked! So if you would like to consider us as an option, we will be more than happy to have you aboard! Otherwise if you would like to join another group you are more than welcome to! We will support you either way. We are a team in every aspect in the storm spotters community!
