SITUATION REPORT 3

SUBJECT:        Situation Report #3 on Flooding

State Emergency Operation Center Update: The EOC will return to level 4 (with 24 hour Duty Officer monitoring flood situation) Friday, April 19, 2013 at 5:00 pm.

Overview:   A winter storm is moving across northern Wisconsin. Many locations are receiving 3-6 inches of snow. Higher amounts are being reported in Ashland, Bayfield and Iron Counties.

As of 4 p.m:

Ashland County/Ashland 15.2”

Bayfield County/Iron River 16”

Douglas County/Superior 20”

Iron County/Gile 17.5”

In southern Wisconsin, scattered light snow/rain showers will diminish this evening with clear skies Saturday. Chances of light rain increase Sunday night into Monday.

Flood warnings remain in effect for the following rivers: Black, Crawfish, Fox, Pecatonica, Rock, Root, Sugar, Trempealeau, Turtle and Wisconsin Rivers.

The crest for many of the rivers is now expected to be lower than earlier predictions this week. Below are some of the areas being monitored and when the rivers should crest:

Rock River at Jefferson: 12.5 ft on 4/21, down from 13.2

Rock River at Ft. Atkinson: 18.4 ft 4/20, down from 18.9

Rock River at Koshkonong: 12.6 ft on 4/22, down from 13.3

Rock River at Afton: 12.4 ft on 4/24, down from 13

Crawfish River at Milford: 8.9 ft 4/21, down from 10.4

Fox River at New Munster: 15 ft on 4/20, up from 14.9

DOT-State Patrol

WIS 241 southbound lanes closed one mile south of Oakwood Road.

The off ramp from I-94 westbound US 41 to WIS 241 is closed due to high water.

 

County Updates:

Jefferson County: County Road K is closed in the Town of Jefferson.

Rock County: Officials report 12 businesses and 25 homes affected by flood waters from Rock River. Three of those homes are in Janesville. A private company delivered 100,000 sandbags. The Rock River is forecast to remain in flood stage for several days.

Kenosha County: WIS 50 is closed at County W due to floodwaters. About 274 homes and 6 businesses affected by Fox River flooding.

Ozaukee County: Milwaukee River in Cedarburg is holding steady.

Columbia County: Officials continue to monitor the Wisconsin River levels with the Sauk and Kilborn Dam operators and the DNR.

Milwaukee County: County Line Road at Nicholson Road in Oak Creek is closed. Foxpoint is reporting some sewage backups. The Root River has fallen below flood stage.

Racine County: Several road closures will continue over weekend until floodwaters recede.

Trempealeau County: Officials continue to monitor the Black and Trempealeau Rivers.

Jackson County: Officials continue to monitor the Black River.
